Sees every disaster coming a mile away. Nobody listens.

Works high up in the derrick guiding pipe, and looks after the mud pumps and the drilling mud.

The Night Toolpusher

Somehow breaks everything he touches.

Runs the drilling crews through the night shift and keeps the job going safely until morning.

Blue hard hats. They keep every machine on the rig working.

The Maintenance Supervisor

Always stressed, because everything keeps getting broken. Buried in reports.

Plans the repairs and checks for every machine on the rig, and writes up what broke and why.

The Mechanic

Complains about everything. Then fixes it.

Keeps the engines, pumps and cranes running, often in the middle of the night.

The Electrician

The go-to pig. Fixes it properly, every time.

Looks after the rig's power, lights, motors and alarms. Nothing works without electricity.

Yellow hard hats. They look after the deck, the cranes and the sea side of the rig.

The Barge Captain

Been there, done that. In the old days.

In charge of the marine side: the weather, keeping the rig steady, the lifeboats and emergencies.

The Deck Supervisor

Used to drive the crane. Let's not talk about why he stopped.

Runs the deck crew: unloading supply boats, organising lifts and keeping the deck tidy and safe.

The Crane Operator

Mostly brilliant at lifting. Occasionally... not.

Lifts cargo between the supply boats and the rig with the big cranes. Steady hands needed.

The Old Hand

Knows every shortcut. The shortcuts don't always work.

An experienced roustabout who moves and lifts everything on deck, and teaches the new starts.

The New Start

Tiny, speedy and very keen. Asks what every button does.

A new roustabout learning the ropes. Every expert was a new start once!

White hard hats. They are in charge, and they worry a lot.

The OIM

Always worried, because the crew keep causing disasters.

The Offshore Installation Manager: the boss of the whole rig and responsible for everyone on board.

The Company Man

Wants it done fast. Faster. FASTER!

Works for the oil company that hired the rig, and decides what work the rig does next.

Some very important pigs with their own special hats.

The Safety Officer

Turns up, and everyone suddenly works very safely (and very slowly).

Checks permits, runs safety talks and stops unsafe jobs before anyone gets hurt. A bit annoying, but usually right.

The Camp Boss

Controls the food, so he controls everyone.

Runs the galley and the living quarters, feeding the whole crew day and night.

The Service Hand

Always in the break room. Usually asleep.

A specialist brought out for one special job, like cementing the well. When the job comes, it has to be ready.
