Lesson 1: dropped objects and hard hats
1. Meet the Safety Officer
His job is to make sure everyone goes home safe. When he turns up, the whole crew suddenly remembers the rules!
2. Hard hats on
On a rig, everyone wears a hard hat outside. It protects your head from bumps and from anything that falls.
3. Up high, tie it on
Work high up in the derrick? Every tool gets a lanyard, a strong cord that stops it falling if you drop it.
4. Look up, look out
Never stand under a load the crane is lifting, and keep a lookout for anything above you.
At home too: keep toys off the stairs, and never leave things on the edge of a high shelf. Same rule as the rig!
